CHERISHING THOSE WHO MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON TRANSIT EMPLOYEE APPRECIATION DAY

Year round, there's a team of drivers, planners, reservationists, administrators, mechanics and more who work daily to keep Rockingham moving, ensuring safe access to life's destinations. On Wednesday, March 18, we celebrate Transit Employee Appreciation Day, relaying our thanks for their dedication day in, day out. If you feel the same sense of appreciation, feel free to share a word and a smile with your driver, or reservationist, or any transit staff that you come in contact with.

HONORING ROSA PARKS ON TRANSIT EQUITY DAY

Transit systems world wide celebrate Transit Equity Day annually on February 4, the birthdate of Mrs. Rosa L. Parks. Her silent protest on an Montgomery, Alabama transit bus resulted in an decisive win in civil rights and a blow to those who felt society would most benefit from inequitable transit services. Today's public transportation, built on the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990 and other legislation continues to lead the way in promising important access to employment, education, and healthcare as well as serving as a catalyst for economic development, sustainability and other common goals. We are proud to play our part in ensuring equal transit for all in Rockingham County.

MICROTRANSIT COMES TO ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

LocalLink is a point-to-point service available to anyone traveling within the designated network outside the regular deviated fixed-route bus service and connector service area. It is a rideshare service. Passengers schedule rides rather than wait for a bus on a fixed schedule. Passengers can call or use a smartphone application to schedule an “on demand” ride and be connected from either Eden, NC to Wentworth, NC or locations in Western Rockingham County (Madison, NC, Mayodan, NC or Stoneville, NC) to Eden, NC. These connections are the missing links in the current system and should allow passengers to get to their destinations sooner without multiple transfers. Click here to learn more.
